“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
I cannot afford to fail myself right now, friends. I mentioned I was on bed rest for about three days due to my knee, and yesterday I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor that pretty much confirmed what I already knew…I must use these next few months to focus on my health and plan for my 33rd birthday in March. Ok, so the doctor didn’t order me to focus on my birthday, that’s all my own doing.
Whenever I’ve been successful at most anything, I had a plan. I planned out my meals and my exercises to lose weight. I planned out grocery trips, budgets and shopping lists to save money. I wrote down my goals and appointments for my business. Writing it out really made me commit to it– I could see it, refer to it, and succeed. And when I’m successful, reaching my goals and organized, I’m a lot happier and I stay motivated.
So, I’ve slowly started filling in my early 2018 events, goals and health/life to-do’s in my new AT-A-GLANCE planner. I really have to start hustling and planning now and keep the momentum going as soon as January rolls around. Planners have really evolved since my high school days…I love the bright pink color and gold corners so much. It’s very Monica.
Right at the front it has a section to write down some goals/dreams for the year, so I wrote down my top 3: to strengthen my knees/legs, to practice self-care and to go on vacations more to explore the world.
The monthly calendar allows me to plan out meals, grocery pick-ups, jot down work and networking functions, and write myself health and wellness reminders plus family stuff. I use colorful erasable gel pens because they make my heart happy and keep mistakes/scribbles off my pretty planner pages. I love the colorful tabs. It’s so feminine yet totally practical and functional.
My pink AT-A-GLANCE planner is my go-to for all things Monica, and this gorgeous agate inspired purple and blue one is all things BLOG/small business related.
The pocket at the front helps me stash away business cards, note cards, fabric swatches, magazine clips and other odds and ends I want to have on hand for various projects. I want to take my blog and business to new heights in 2018 to grow and expand, and being organized and thinking ahead will help me reach my goals and special milestones.
In the monthly view, I can write down my blog post ideas, deadlines and reminders. The space on the side also gives me room to jot down possible blog topics that come to me when inspiration hits.
Both planners also have some handy pages in the back for notes, budgets, doodles, contacts, etc. I do jot down and schedule things on my phone all the time, but I really love complimenting my digital life with AT-A-GLANCE planners because I feel that writing things down causes me to focus, reflect and commit. The AT-A-GLANCE planner works with my digital calendar pretty well by giving me a written back-up of my ideas/goals, plus it offers a broader view than my calendar app and is easy to pull out and use when working with clients or family face-to-face if I’m trying to schedule things.
I also enjoy using physical planners when grocery shopping because it is oh so satisfying to cross things off a list, amirite? I can’t be the only one who feels that way. Oh and they look gorgeous on my desk, and I love me some pretty office supplies.
Now I want to get some cute stickers to help color code events and birthdays. I’m a total planner addict, and I love the features and function of these AT-A-GLANCE planners. I plan to pick some up to give to some girlfriends who I know love gorgeous planners/stationery to stay organized with.
