It’s always a great week when I’m able to participate in Jess from Domicile 37’s Inspired by DIY monthly challenge. This month’s challenge was to create something Pottery Barn inspired, and I chose to keep it relatively simple by being inspired by their palm leaf art prints. At about $100 each this wouldn’t be something I’d splurge on ever. So, I DIY’d it and am sharing the printable with you lovelies for free.
We recently painted the dining room navy, and I’ve been in “must use bold colors” mode, so I really liked the idea of adding in a pair of palm leaf prints to the navy dining room walls. The green would really pop, plus I already had two gold frames from Michael’s that would be perfect for the prints.
There are a lot of graphic resources out there, but I opted to venture to Freepik to see what vectors they had to offer. I love Freepik and use it often for work, and it didn’t let me down for this challenge. I ended up using this vector graphic and using just the palm leaf in the lower left corner.
In Illustrator I sized it to fit an 8×10 size, printed it out on my gold printer (seen above- which has AMAZING print quality and is a swoon worthy color), and then put it into the frames. Easy peasy and took me less than half an hour.
A tip when printing artwork at home is to print it on linen cardstock. It’ll instantly give your artwork an artsy, high-end vibe/finish. Pick up a pack of linen cardstock during the 50% off paper sales at your local craft store—my fave is the one from JoAnn’s which is about $5 during a sale.
Given that I’m still working on curating décor and the overall look I want in the dining room I didn’t hang them on the wall just yet. For now they look great over this Mid-Century Modern sideboard that you’ll get to see more of soon. Are you LOVING those navy walls? I sure am. Wish I’d done it sooner.
You can download these prints to use in your home for FREE using this link right here.
So, overall this inspired by DIY challenge led me to save about $180 from the Pottery Barn version, so I call this a huge DIY décor win! The frames I had on hand already, but were about $20 for the pair, so that’s where I’m getting my number from.
