We are now officially in week 4 of the One Room Challenge, and boy oh boy am I feeling the pressure! I lost out on a whole weekend of working on the space due to my High Point trip, and I realized this weekend that I have so much left to do! I did work on two major things for the master bedroom this weekend: a GORGEOUS IKEA Besta hack using O’verlays and installing a luxe Greek key border rug from Plush Rugs! There’s a 15% off discount code for O’verlays towards bottom of this post.
Catch up on Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3
Let’s start with the high quality Momeni rug from the kind folks over at Plush Rugs! Their selection is fabulous, and they truly have options for every style and price point. We had to remove our super heavy mattress to get the rug under the bed, which proved to be useful to clean under the bed and put on the bedskirt. Also, you’ll have to forgive the clutter in some of the photos…this room is truly a work in progress!
And once we got it under the bed I stared at it for about five minutes. It is sooooo plush and gorgeous!
I really wanted a neutral rug that would last through my decor phases and trends, and I think this is a winner. It laid flat almost instantly, and truthfully, this is now by far the nicest rug I own. I’ve seen Momeni rugs at local retailers before, but the patterns were never quite right for my home, but I always did notice how much thicker they were than other brands. I’m a Momeni fan now!
Now moving onto our TV stand… I couldn’t find a “ready” piece I truly loved, so I decided to opt for an IKEA hack using the ornate and feminine Khloe O’verlays kit for a Besta unit for Lappviken doors. O’verlays are an affordable and DIY friendly way to make your IKEA or other furniture pieces have a bit more style and flair.
They have plenty of ready made designs and kits made for popular IKEA pieces/sizes, and they also do custom orders if you have something in mind. I can attest to their outstanding customer service and quality of their overlays- you’ve likely seen them featured somewhere in popular shelter magazines/websites.
My order from IKEA only cost $9 to ship and spared me from a 6-7 hour road trip, so that was a huge relief! I ordered the 48″ Besta unit with shelves, lappviken doors and metal legs that I spray painted with my very favorite gold spray paint.
I also opted to spray paint the O’verlays, which come in a white finish, so that they would match the legs. They were totally flawless in the white finish, but you all know me. 🙂
Two light coats of the gold spray paint gave me a smooth metallic finish.
Once the O’verlays were dry (about an hour or so to be safe), I gathered a few supplies (q-tips, rubbing alcohol and this 1-minute set epoxy) to prep for adhering the panels to the doors. The epoxy sets in SECONDS (the one I bought anyway), so I quickly put the epoxy on the border of the panels and a few spots in the center, put it on the door and QUICKLY set it into place. I had less than a minute to work with before the panel was on permanently.
I used a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to get rid of any seepage from the epoxy, and in less than 5 minutes the panels were permanently on the unit.
I’m still on the fence as to whether or not to add some knobs…the glam part of me wants to, the practical part of me says to leave it alone. What do you think?
And last week I updated you all about the curtains and lucite rod going up, and a few of you all sent me emails asking if I could please post a full length sneak peek. I aim to please, so here you go:
Besides cleaning up the master bedroom of all junk everywhere from this One Room Challenge process, I still need to get the green tufted chair from DHP Furniture set-up, figure out the wall decor accessories, install the stand-off metal prints from Nations Photo Lab to flank the TV, and I have a full length mirror from Holly & Martin that needs a spot in the room, too. Oh and the bedding…still need to narrow that down. I’ll be a busy lady this weekend, that’s for sure.
To save 15% off your order of O’verlays use code “Monicawantsit” (without quotation marks) at checkout. Happy shopping!
I tend to (over)share on my Instagram stories, so give me a follow over there for some behind the scenes fun. I’ll be back Friday with a DIY tutorial for how to change your bland builder grade lighting to a more chic, upscale, but affordable look.
Check out the week 4 updates here– thanks to One Room Challenge and House Beautiful for hosting this challenge.

Beautiful so far. I think a pair of crystal knobs would look great on the front of the tv cabinet.
