One week until the big reveal of my new black and white meets audubon and botanical dining room space! Try saying that five times fast… This week has minimal updates, BUT I did get the replacement curtains hung and a few accessories. I also decided what to do about my plant saga, so onward we go! A huge thanks again to Lemons, Lavender & Laundry for hosting this challenge!

I came to my senses and realized I could take a full length photo from my patio, so here’s the dining area before the new curtains were hung. I need to relocate Pee Wee’s dining spot with his most fave Henri Bendel dog bowls (I bought them on clearance two years ago!). Yes, that’s a bathmat. My sweet senior dog is starting to show signs of slowing down, so instead of him running to a rug to eat (he hates cold tile), which is his fave thing to do, I brought the rug/bathmat to him. Eyesore as it may be, I’ll do anything to make him comfortable. Our home is not a home without Pee Wee.
I couldn’t find my Lowe’s receipt, and later did find it because that’s just how stuff goes in my world, but I did find a cheap plastic planter with drainage at Dollar Tree that fit perfectly into my brass planter with stand.
The plant is a bit too big for the brass planter pot, whoops, so I think I’ll need to rethink this. It’s kind of compacted in there, and I know that can’t be good for the roots. Luckily, I kept the original container I brought it home in, so I can move it back. This is why I am sticking to fake plants from here on out, friends! But is there a way to safely “reduce” the plant size? I want to cut about a third of it off and plant it in a smaller planter. Basically, can I make two plants out of one?
The curtains look lovely in here once again. I had a pair, then one was ruined by Mr. Pee Wee who decided to pee on it, took it to the cleaners and it shrunk a full foot or so despite following the care instructions. The company replaced the panel and we’re being vigilant so Pee Wee doesn’t get any crazy ideas again. I swear he’s housebroken- he’s just a fart sometimes. Note to self- Scotchguard the curtains! I added a pair of cheapy tassels from Big Lots that I had laying around that actually look quite lovely in here with all the brass and gold accents.
This is the newest brass/gold décor acquisition- a giant brass thermometer! I saw it online and was so in love, but thought it surely couldn’t be worth $20 for a thermometer. I mean, we have a Nest for that. Then I saw it in-store, was truly smitten, but left it. Then I saw it again this weekend and just bought the darn thing with a gift card I had. Can’t wait to get this beauty on the wall.
And remember that fun black and white pillow I linked to last week? Yeah, it jumped in my cart and came home with me, too.
I am likely all out of budget for this challenge, so it’s a good thing the big reveal is next week! You all have been so kind to pin and comment on my space, and I can’t thank you all enough. Gorgeous décor doesn’t have to cost a fortune!
Here’s how much I’ve spent to date:
- $20 on indoor plant and potting soil from Lowe’s (is it weird to return a plant…it’s weird, isn’t it?)
- $10 on additional picture frame from Big Lots
- $30 on faux florals from Michael’s (two wisteria bushes and some fern type stems)
- $35 on brass thermometer and black & white pillow
- Total $95! (I still somehow have $5 left!)
Now all that’s left is to set the table and accessories for the big reveal. You won’t want to miss it!

First, I kill all the things, so I have no idea about the plant, but I am going to say that you might have just bought the prettiest thermometer I have ever seen, and being that you saw it, like, 3 times, you know you needed it 🙂 Can't wait for that reveal!

Your room is looking great! The bathmat for your dog is so sweet. With that plant, you can take cuttings and make new plants. Snip a piece off and stick in in water until roots grow. I would say that you should be able to divide it too.

Ooh, thanks! I am so naive when it comes to plants, but I truly do want to learn. Thanks for the help, Emy!

I love Pee Wee's spot. My Lilly makes a huge mess when she gets a drink, I think I might get a bath mat for her to use! Great idea and my hardwood floors thank you!
