Oh, hi there. I know it’s been quiet around here. Two weeks ago I was in San Diego speaking about social media and higher education at the ACCT Congress. Then last week…well, last week was EPIC.
Me after hair and makeup last week before the BHG Live stream…I felt GORGEOUS.
In August, I was notified I was one of three bloggers selected to be part of the BHG Live! event in NYC on October 21. I had submitted a 15-second audition as part of the BHG Live Better Network. The video took me three hours to shoot and edit, and I honestly never thought I stood a chance. The BHG Live Better Network features some MEGA huge bloggers that in my mind are pseudo celebrities, so to be selected was a life changing experience. It felt like a fairy tale, truly.
The set was amazing, and yes, every single one of those products is available at Walmart.
I was flown to NYC last week, and I had my hair and make-up done, got to meet Eddie Ross (OH MY GOSH), and most importantly, I was part of the BHG Live! event that was broadcast online. If you missed it, you can watch it here. The other talented and amazing bloggers chosen were Heidi from Honeybear Lane (yellow sweater below) and Kristyn (green blouse below) from Lil’ Luna. They were absolutely lovely, and I was thrilled to get to spend time with such friendly bloggers. (Thanks to my friend Jackie for these wonderful screen caps!)
I’ve been mulling this post over and over in my head, and I don’t think I can find the words to adequately express how amazing my experience was. The BHG, MXM, and Walmart employees (Kelly, Emily, Heather, Toia, Eddie, Nancy, Wendy, Elise, Jason, Nicole, Max & everyone else!) were simply the nicest people ever, and they made all of us bloggers feel talented, valued and welcome. They were so genuine and it made me feel me absolutely wonderful. Besides being friendly, they were all top-notch professionals and such team players.
Here I am in the kitchen used on set. It was sooooo pretty.
My question during the part where Eddie is chatting with us on the sofa and introducing the BHG Live Better Network was, “What does being part of the BHG Live Better Network mean to you?” and I thought about my answer for a long time in the days leading up to the event. Being a blogger, we are expected to be good with words, and I was drawing a blank. I wanted to be sincere on just how much I appreciated this opportunity, while also being classy and including all the other bloggers in my response. I hope my answer was a good one- you need to watch the show and let me know. 🙂
My other segment (which you can see above) involved putting together gorgeous and easy edible gift products with BHG Senior Deputy Food and Entertaining Editor Nancy Hopkins. Nancy is a ball of fire, and she is a pro (and a natural!) on camera. She’s so authentic, kind, and down to earth, and she made me feel totally at ease during the segment. Toia from Walmart was also in that segment, and she’s a classy, chic lady! She has an aura of calm around her that just made her so easy to talk to. They made me come across as confident on camera, and I cannot thank them enough.
Throughout the day, the BHG, Walmart and production team worked tirelessly to rehearse and workout all the kinks. They rehearsed over and over to make sure everything was just right. I was in awe at how it all came together flawlessly once we went live. The products were gorgeous, especially the new metallic table decor which is PERFECT for the upcoming holiday season. Those will be out November 2 on walmart.com/betterhomesandgardens, so make sure to buy them before they sell out.
I’ll end this recap with my most favorite part of my experience…Eddie Ross. Anyone that knows me knows I adore Eddie Ross. His style is eclectic, and he is truly what inspired me to get out there and start thrifting in 2009 and I haven’t stopped ever since. We were sitting on set waiting for directions on what to do, and no joke, when he walked in, I gasped. I was so star struck! I’m totally framing the photo below.
We were given copies of his book, Modern Mix (you need to buy this stat if you love decor as much as I do- it is high quality in both construction and content), and I was so honored to meet him and chat with him. You never know how people you admire will be in “real” life, but he was kind, funny and charming. He’s just as you’d think he’d be, if that makes sense. I think great things will keep happening to Eddie, and he’s so deserving. Plus, after the event he followed me on Instagram which definitely takes my fan girl status to new levels. #EddieRossFan4Life
In summary, I’d like thank to BHG Live Better and Walmart for taking this small town blogger to the Big Apple to participate in the BHG Live! event. I am still trying to convince myself it really did happen and that I am deserving. I am honestly tearing up writing this because it meant/means that much to me that they took a chance on me for a LIVE event.
The experience left me wanting more…I need to up my blogging game and showcase my talent more so that hopefully opportunities like this are more frequent for me. I always have this sense that I am not deserving or worthy because my blog is small or because I am fluffy, but I am coming to the realization that quality and consistency can hopefully open up doors for me. The photo below was taken after we finished the live show, and it was mostly to prove to myself that I indeed was there and it was all really happening. Man, my makeup was on fleek. (First and last time I use that word in a post, true story.)
Thanks for being a reader and supporter, and more importantly, a blogging friend. xoxo. I decided to extend my stay by two days to enjoy NYC, and I had a SUPER FUN time! I’ll be back on Friday with my NYC trip recap which will probably be too long and filled with too many pics, but I hope you’ll enjoy and read anyway.
