Apartment Guest Room/Office Room Refresh

Sharing is caring!

You all are going to think I am bonkers, but in addition to taking on the dining “room” (more like dining space…) $100 room makeover challenge, I am ALSO participating in the New Year, New Room (NYNR) Refresh Challenge with Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living.

I think the reason I am OK with tackling two makeovers at once is that neither require any truly time consuming DIY like painting walls or using power tools since I am in an apartment. You can read all about my dining room makeover here, and I’ll be posting an update tomorrow, so stay tuned.

For the NYNR Challenge, I decided to whip the guest room/office into shape. We’re in a 2 bedroom apartment, but we actually have guests more now than we did in Beeville, so our guest room will get decent use. I also still would like a dedicated office space, so I’m combining the two into a 10×13 space.

Here’s the overall mood board for the room:

A 10x13 apartment bedroom gets a glam and girly makeover to function as both a guest room and home office. It's a room refresh full of DIY ideas for renters. Lots of gold, black and white, plus florals.

Source List:

Floral Wall Mural  |  Gold Frames (Similar)  |  Wall Lamps  |  Desk (Similar)

Gold Printer  |  Rug  |  Desk Chair  |  Gold Shelf  |  Curtains

As you can see, it’s super girly. I figured we will only be here for another 8 months (yup, totally counting down to September 15!), so I may as well do whatever the heck I want!

The key furniture items that will be in this room are:
-A queen bed
-A desk
-A desk chair
-One gold Vittsjo shelving unit
-A side table/nightstand
-32” TV

That’s a lot to pack into a 10×13 space, I know. My goal is to keep it tidy and peaceful, while still being girly glam. Luckily, there’s a massive walk-in closet, so I don’t need to keep too many items out in the open since the closet provides plenty of shelving for all our stuff.

The sponsored items in this room makeover are: a huge temporary wall mural (13’ wide) in a bold red/pink floral from Walls Need Love. Also on that wall will be a pair of plug-in wall swing-arm lamps from Lamps Plus (flanking the bed), a 5×8 rug from Rugs USA to anchor the office “space”, and a gorgeous desk chair from World Market.

In its current state, it is an abyss of beige. Honestly, being surrounded by beige walls and ceilings has made me miss the plain Jane bright white walls of my former college apartments. I feel it is super dark in here all the time.

The curtains I have in my inspo board are SO pricey for 108″ curtains. I don’t know if I want to splurge on them or not, but I do know I’d be able to use them again in our future house since I know we will definitely have 9′ ceilings.

So far we have the bed where it needs to be, and this weekend I plan to install the wall mural and wall lamps. I’m a little nervous because it has to be pretty spot on for it to look good since it’s 8 individual panels coming together to form one mural. After that, I’ll likely hang the curtains, and hopefully we’ll get the TV mounted on the wall. Ignore that huge computer- I am currently getting old files off of it to finally rid of the thing. It’s nearly 11 years old.

From there, all I will need to do is organize my office supplies/décor on my Vittsjo shelf, hang a small gallery wall using frames I’ve had laying around since March 2016, and decide on an office chair (although I may just snag one of the ghost chairs from the dining area to reduce clutter). I will also do some DIY artwork instead of buying pieces to save money.

I want the bed to be comfy and cute, and I bought some luxe velvet quilted shams at Target on clearance this weekend for the bed. It’s going to be so tempting to crawl into bed when I’m in here working on blog stuff. Maybe I should get a 2nd Apple TV for the space (don’t tell Daniel!)

And here’s a glimpse at how cozy this space will be…

So, cross your fingers that I install the wall mural without a hitch, and stay tuned for the next 3 Tuesdays to see how this space evolves! I am in fabulous and talented company for this challenge, so go checkout which spaces they’re refreshing— there’s dining rooms, playrooms, bedrooms, living rooms and more!

This is going to be beautiful! Love the wallpaper and all the fun pattern and color that are going in the room. Even though your place is temporary, it's still going to be amazing!

Monica, thanks so much for answering all my questions. You are so very talented and creative, I really do love everything you do. Would love to have all your pretties, but alas, too expensive for my pocketbook. Your home is beautiful, keep those creative juices flowing! p.s. My dog is also named PeeWee, and he is also very spoiled.
