It’s time for a New Year, New Room Refresh update! Next week is our big reveal week, and I have SO MUCH work to do. You can catch up and look at the design plan here and week 2 update here.
This week our lovely host Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living asked us to showcase a DIY project for our space to share with our readers, and I chose to document how we installed our plug-in swing arm wall lamps from Lamps Plus. This would apply to any wall lamps you want to install, and it truly is an easy process.
I have been lusting over these wall lamps (that plug-in, so no hardwiring necessary) for a long, long time, so it’s pretty exciting to finally have a pair. They look so chic against the floral wall mural I installed from Walls Need Love.
Here’s how I did it:
1.) Using a level I selected how high the lamps would be. I chose the height based on what I thought would work for reading in bed. (It’s hard to see the red line from the level, but it is there, I promise)
2.) The lamps come with a plate that you use to mount the whole fixture. Mark your four holes, use a 1/4″ drill bit to drill holes for the anchors, pop the anchors in, put the plate over and screw the screws in.
3.) Attach the actual fixture to the plate and secure with the two side screws.
4.) Up next are the shade, the ring that holds in the shade, plus the bulb. Plug it in and enjoy your gorgeous light!
The shades have all these pretty crystals that really add a warm glow to the space, and the chrome finish works well with any décor style or color. We’re using some LED bulbs in the lamps.
And you can’t deny how convenient these lamps are for reading in bed since they’re a swing arm style and adjust. They’re really great if you don’t have space for a nightstand, but want some extra light. Also, the knob that turns on the light also can dim the light slightly if you don’t want it as bright. Pretty nifty! If these are too glam for you, they have other options at Lamps Plus.
Still waiting on a few things to arrive from World Market and Rugs USA, plus I have to set-up my desk and vittsjo, but overall this little 10×13 space will be done and ready for guests.
Tomorrow you’ll get to see the results of my $100 Dining Room Makeover (catch up on week 1, week 2 or week 3 of that makeover) and I am freakin’ thrilled with how that tiny 9×6 foot space came together. I packed a lot of glam style into the space and am thinking of hosting a small dinner party soon to celebrate. I love any excuse to buy champagne and throw a party.
