This past weekend I was so focused on the guest room/office makeover that I kind of neglected the dining area…and now I remember why I don’t usually do two room makeovers at once. Duly noted.
Need to catch up on the progress of this room? You can find week 1 here and week 2 here.
And also in the interest of full transparency, we went to a bunch of open houses this weekend again. Seriously, my husband is a saint. I don’t know how he puts up with me.
But look at this house!
Ok, so. Dining room.
Originally I had planned on a large gallery wall above the black bench using some of my Minted art pieces and some other floral art pieces I have on hand, but living with the wallpaper and rug in the space for over a week now, I kind of feel like there’s enough going on and I should exercise some restraint. Ya know, the KISS principle (keep it simple, sweetie/stupid).
Being that we’re in the apartment, I didn’t bring every single piece of artwork from the house with me, but I did bring my starburst mirror from the old office. I thought that it would look really simple and great instead of making it super busy with 3-4 art pieces.
And I was right. I love it. Totally the right call. Less is more!
One of my most popular tutorials on Pinterest is my 5-minute Kate Spade metallic foil striped vase tutorial. It is ridiculously easy, and I thought why not do something else like that again?
I had some remnants left from the guest room wall mural (it’s gorgeous, check it out here), so I decided to spruce up that same vase again.
DIY Kate Spade Inspired Vase Version 2.0
Step 1: I took off the gold tape that was on there and set it aside (yup, I reused it because I can and I’m cheap!). I then cleaned the vase to get rid of dust and fingerprints.
Step 2: I measured the height and circumference of the vase to then cut a scrap piece of black wallpaper vinyl to wrap around it. Don’t have adhesive vinyl on hand? Use scrapbook paper, cardstock, wrapping paper.
Step 3: Using coordinating metallic craft tape, I added a few stripes.
Step 4: Plop in some faux florals or grab a cheap bouquet from the grocery store. Marvel at your awesomeness.
For the full reveal next Wednesday, I’ll try to make time to go buy real florals.
AND I finally broke down and spent some money on this challenge. $30.27 to be exact on these beauties that I’ve been lusting over at H&M for MONTHS. Seriously. I almost bought them last fall when they were first added, then they sold out, then they disappeared completely for a few months, then they came back around Christmas. This weekend they were on sale, plus they had free shipping, so I bit the bullet and got a set of 4.
They’re going to look marvelous with my gold flatware and agate napkin rings.
All that’s left is to stage, take photos and show off the new dining room space next Wednesday. I can’t believe how fast time flies during these challenges.
There’s more inspiration to be found via the talented bloggers participating in this challenge below. Be back Friday with a surprise reveal! xo.
